What COVID-19 safety measures is Alyce's Art Studio putting in place
In order to keep our community safe as we transition to in person classes, we are implementing the following safety measures.
we are not allowing anyone exhibiting flu like symptoms to enter the studio or attend classes & camps.
We are implementing strict cleaning measures so that the furniture, equipment, restrooms, door handles, surfaces and shared art materials will be frequently sanitized.
We ask that during this time of tremendous change, that you remain patient with us. It will take us a little longer to get students through the clean up phase of class because we are limiting the number of students at our sink areas. We will do our best to adapt and we need everyone's participation and kindness during this transition.

What is a "Free Trial" art class?
If you feel your child meets our enrollment criteria, we invite you to enroll in a free trial class with us. This class has two purposes. First, it is an opportunity for your child to evaluate their interest in participating in ongoing art classes. Second, our teachers can assess the student’s abilities and gauge if they are ready for continuing instruction.
It is important to note that not all children are eligible for enrolling in ongoing classes. Overall, our teachers want to ensure your child is ready to have a great experience and that it is a worthwhile investment for parents.
Free trial classes are not available for camp enrollment because students do not need to complete a trial class to enroll in summer camps.

What classes are available for teenage students?
We offer 2 options for teens.
Our Beginner Teen Program runs concurrently with our ongoing weekly classes. We offer classes Monday- Saturday. Click here for our class CALENDAR. Students will work from a teen specific curriculum and participate in classes with youth from mixed age groups and skill levels. Students will learn fundamental art skills and build their experience working with a variety of art materials. This program will instill in students a strong understanding of line, color theory, form, anatomy, artistic perspectives as well as a myriad of other art concepts and techniques.
Our Advanced Teen Night Portfolio class runs Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday nights from 5:00pm - 7:00pm during the school year. This class is for advanced teen students who will develop a sketchbook, build several series of artwork, and showcase their work in a gallery at the end of the year (late May). By class completion students will have a thorough understanding of how to conceptualize their work and bring their ideas to life.
What is the average class size?
We have a maximum 1:6 teacher/student ratio for all of our classes and summer camps.
Can my child work ONLY on drawing or painting?
No, we do not offer drawing or painting specific classes. Rather we have all students enrolled in our monthly classes work from a carefully designed curriculum. We believe it is vital that students are given opportunities to work with a variety of materials and subject matter as they develop as artists. Our primary goal is for students to build strong foundational art skills while having opportunities to develop personal expression and artistic style.
How long does it take in the curriculum to start working on portraiture?
To learn how to render the human form, students must first learn about perspective, proportion, planes of the face, light, shape, line, and form.
Typically it takes beginner level students a minimum of one year before we approach realistic portrait painting.
How do I know which techniques are being taught in each project?
Students work from a specialized curriculum in which each project has a list of specific goals, concepts and techniques. Parents are welcome to check with instructors to receive monthly updates on their child's progress and goals being met.
We provide parents with a program worksheet that lists all of the goals for each level in the curriculum. Please note, we do not provide a copy of our curriculum to take home since it is proprietary to Alyce’s Art Studio.
How do I know my child’s artistic skills will improve at Alyce’s Art Studio?
Our fun and engaging style of instruction encourages higher learning. Our curriculum consists of six levels that progress from fundamental concepts to complex art technique and theory. Dedicated students will create dynamic artwork using a myriad of media including but not limited to graphite, charcoal, collage materials, oil pastel, watercolor, and acrylic paints. Students will also explore influential artists and take a visual journey through art history.
How long does an art project take to complete?
Art projects can vary depending on each student’s temperament, learning process, comprehension, and past experience. We have found that most projects take between four to six classes to complete.
Will Alyce’s Art Studio make my child an artist?
Alyce's Art Studio alone will not make your child an artist. Being an artist requires dilligent exploration and practice. We offer classes to introduce students to drawing and painting concepts and techniques. Students who want to become artists need to continue to practice and foster these skills throughout their lives.
We encourage parents to buy their children sketchbooks and carve out time at home dedicated to sketching, doodling, drawing, painting, and being creative. We also encourage our students to visit art galleries, spend time in museums, and to engage in art related community events.
Are your teachers professional working artists?
Yes. All of the instructors at Alyce’s Art Studio have degrees in art and have showcased their art in galleries across the country. To find out more about a particular teacher, you can visit our faculty page here.

Will my makeup classes expire?
Make-ups will not expire. However they are only available to currently enrolled students.
Can I substitute one of my weekly enrolled classes for a makeup class?
No. It is important to note that makeup classes are taken in addition to the regularly enrolled class.
In other words, when your child attends a makeup class, your child will attend 2 times that week. Once for the regularly enrolled class, and a second time to complete the makeup class.
What if my child has to miss their scheduled makeup class?
If you miss your makeup class, there is no makeup for missing that class, so please schedule your makeup classes carefully.

PARENT INVOLVMENT
What can I do as a parent to make sure my child has the best experience?
Be encouraging and understanding even if your child’s artwork is not“perfect.” We encourage our students to be independent artists and allow for mistakes during the learning process. This encouragement coupled with creating time to practice at home is the best thing you can do to foster creativity, build confidence, and promote artistic growth.
Don’t push them to go faster than their ability to process artistic concepts. This can lead students to “burn out” and discontinue making art.
Give them time to develop their skills. Artistic development takes years -- especially for portraiture and photo realism.
Can I stay during my child’s art class?
No. Our instructors rely on the full attention of their students. A parent may stay in the classroom during the first 10 minutes of a class only.
How can I keep track of what my child is learning?
Each curriculum project is meant to teach students new techniques and art concepts. We ask parents to stop into the studio periodically to view student progress and engage in their learning experience.
Alyce's Art Studio teaches a curriculum in six levels. In order to move from one level to the next, students must complete all projects in that level and pass a quiz that reinforces core principles. When a student progresses to the next level they will be given a certificate of completion for their acheivement.
Parents are welcome to schedule a parent/teacher meeting to get more information on their child’s learning and progression within the curriculum.
